Theo Walcott commits to Arsenal

Sigster

Gelding
Theo Walcott has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with Arsenal, worth £100,000 a week.

The 23-year-old England forward, who is in the final six months of his current deal, rejected a five-year offer worth £75,000 a week in August.

Talks stalled after Walcott turned down Arsenal's summer proposal but progress was made in the last two weeks

Walcott - who has recently been used as a striker - has scored 14 goals in 24 games this season.

The club had tabled a five-year contract worth a reported £90,000-a-week with a signing-on bonus worth around £3m.

Walcott favoured a three-and-a-half year deal and common ground was found on that, and also on the complex area of image rights.

Walcott's deal includes a signing-on bonus in the region of £3m.

meh

He only agreed to 3.5 years, so in 18 months time when the club and his agent sit around the negotiating table again, the whole sorry affair will probably be repeated as he holds the club to ransom again.

Now he's the highest paid player at the club, he has to start delivering on a more consistent basis, which I doubt if he can.

Disgusted of North London

in a different life this thread title would read as "Arsenal commits suicide"

did you notice that they're all too rich to bother taking their hands out of their pockets?

watch and weep.

nice to see theo got his nice big pay rise, his recent performances have been usual for him very quick, but no end product .Of all the decent players we have lost in the last few seasons why oh why did we keep him,van persie worth 20-30 goals a year walcott 10-15 on a good season...
time for a change at the top if you have to break the pay structure at least do it for players that will make a positive difference to the team.

I've never been convinced by him. Yesterday's performance was typical - running straight into opponents and a poor first touch.

Wish we'd sold him to some mugs for an English premium fee ie £20M and bought a proper winger ie someone who can beat people with the ball. But Walcott and his agents correctly calculated that Wenger would do anything not to lose another high profile player after van Persie and Song had been sold, and they held the club to ransom over his wages.
