Question

Just rated a race for today using all I've learned from you all and other sources I could find. I have rated the 5:30 at Pontefract and have backed the top rated with Bet 365 for price guarantee.
Kolonel Kirkup 69
War Lord 63
Shearian 34
The Scuttler 57
Blazeofenchantment 38
Kat Moon 48
Polar Forest 46
Threepence 39

Because I don't keep speed figures and I am looking for an angle to rate any race on any day, using a set of going allowance's. Could you tell me if this looks right according to those who keep speed figures.

Your top 3 rated are in the top 4 of the weights.

The Scuttler is top rated by Split Second and another set I use also have The Scuttler top rated.

Kolonel Kirkup is 5th top rated on split second and third top rated on the other figures.

Kolonel Kirkup's split second figure comes from August 13th last year on good ground.

To be honest, Pontefract has a stiff uphill finish and some of these have never encountered such conditions so it is pure guesswork whether they will handle the track.

Good luck but it is a difficult race to get a handle on.

I am only concentrating on the horses last run, and not what they achieved a year ago, I am trying to rate the race today from LTO runs using speed Kolonel Kirkup ran at Newcastle over 7f the winner was 2.70 slower than standard, carrying 9-2, I use a set number for the going in this case the going was good I use -0.03*7= -0.21, which when subtracted from 2.70 give me 2.49. Now I follow the BlueBrother and divide the 2.49 by .2= 12.45* lbs per length 2.34=29.13. 100-29.3=70.7. rounded the winner then was rated at 71+2 for weight=73. Kolonel Kirkup was btn 4.5 lths. I times this by the Lbs per length= 10.5 rounded =11. subtract the 11 from 73=62. As he carried 9-7=62+7=69. class of race was 5 which is 68 looking at the par table posted earlier. I do an average of the two which gave me the 69 for Kolonel Kirkup.

Hi TW and AR, in answer to an earlier request if some one could do a snap shot of last weeks Windsor meeting as this weeks Weekender is not out I will try and do an example as I interpretate the Solidus all I need is 1 handicap race showing how they finished, the time above or below and the Going corrections as they appear on the top of the said card/meeting. can anyone post that up?
Following all kinds of SF's take so many factors in it is hard to get an angle that's why the Solidus was not too bad

Hi P,
Did you automate the process at all? Looks like it should be doable. When I have finished my current project I think might have a look and see whact can be done. The only real problem is that the copy of the Solidus isn't that clear :?

AR,

I did have a spread sheet on Excel, I tried to send it to B our current computer expert but some where in the change over on my computer and laptop the format changed, I just need a copy of the weekender from last week and pick a race out, I can do the example from there.
You would have to enter the results every week/day to get the data base up and running before automating everything, like VDW I tried to get hold of Dave Towey without success, something changed though in the results/times which is another reason in my view it became un predictable

Cheers

Sorry arkroyal I dont know what automate the process means or how to do it, when it comes to computers I need an idiots guide.

By automation I mean use a computer to do all the hard work so you don't have to do any calculations by hand and thereby eliminate any mistake caused by human error. The other benefit is that you can process every race on any given day in less time than it would take you to manually work out a single race.

I already have access to past results so wouldn't have to worry about entering them. It should be an interesting exercise

Hi,

I now have the sheet thanks to a very kind member sorting out a computer glitch now all I need is the results from any 1 race snapshot so I can see the going correction and weights etc and the time of the race.

in fact the weekender comes out on a Wednesday so a race from Saturday's results will do the job and I can show how you get the figs from a race

Cheers

Pingman looking forward to see how it done, will there be any chance of a copy of the sheet, or is it easy to set up.

If I have done it right again though with the going allowance I am using a method I got from BB these are my ratings for 4:10 Yarmouth.

Admiralty 155
Light Burst 152
Majestic Oasis 142
Poisson D´Or 164
Skytrain 125

Maybe Pingman you can check this out for me. Thanks.
And thank you arkroyal for the going allowances you sent.

TW,

Just back from work and will go through my sheet with AR I think he can post it up for everyone once he has seen it in use.

Cant check as have no RP or WE to use but we will see

Cheers

I have found a missing section from the Solidus pdf that nedloh provided a link to.
It is subtitled 'The Rates, Tables and Solidus Charts in a nutshell'

Thanks arkroyal, I have just followed step by step the race I rated earlier today Yarm 4:10. using the going corrections as suggested by the Solidus table.
Admiralty 73
Light Burst 218
Majestic Oasis 193
Poisson D´Or 326
Skytrain 237

Now I end up with ratings in 300s and 200s. One other problem I have Course classification, what I am using is a set of classifications that someone a while ago gave me, but they seem so different to the Solidus. For example Newcastle as shown being E, I have as B.
Do you know the course classifactions, and if they are different today.
