Getting back to dodgy tipsters, I did follow Goal Adviser for a bit, until i realised she kept deleting losing weeks on the blog and deleting losing accas on the facebook page.
When I mentioned this on Facebook I was promptly blocked! lol

Just looked in my junk folder & theres 20-30 more in there. I'll have to give Nick Pullen & Geegez a look but in all honesty I dont have the time or indeed inclination to look at more info & angles. I read recently on another forum the CIA had run tests on professional horseplayers & their success rate lessens with the more info they receive 6 pieces being the optimum number

Far better imo to specialise in something and come up with your own ideas rather than rely on anyone else.

Have to agree with you there Dave. I think it helps to have a more intimate relationship with your selections than just receiving a list and throwing your money on. Then for example, if a losing streak occurs, I am not left in the dark as to what the heck is going on, I can investigate things myself.. Same for a winning streak, if I think that my selections are over-performing based on historical stats then I can at least be anticipating a drawdown or again investigating whether this is just a run of good luck or if there were other key conditions present that I had not accounted for before but can use to improve on my overall method.

In principle I agree, but someone else's way of looking at things often shows me something I hadn't thought of before. If it fits, it goes into the blender.

I was referring to those who use tipsters who just give out selections with no reasoning behind them - I agree that forums such as this where we exchange ideas are a completely different thing entirely

the long and short of it is this
UKBT started like theukbettingforum, a place on the internet where people could share ideas and tips whilst unmasking dodgy tipsters .
UKBT is now a commercial venture which unfortunately became derailed by two things ; the return of Gwerzal and the 2yo handicapper.
A fool and his money are easily parted and that will always be the case BUT you do NOT try and shaft the cogs that make your machine work ie the Mods. This is what happened and we are where we are.

To be honest I think some of us saw the writing on the wall long before that, with the 'Bookie Bashers' fiasco.
fazzy ended up with a site where he had one guy (me !!) doing pro-tips for free, but was also selling a tipping service on the same site for 50 quid a month.
Trouble is when the paying service proved to be crap, he realised he could make a few quid just for promoting any sort of crap. It was the same idiots every time that would buy anything going so he could get his 10 per cent - that's when we started getting all the chancers on the site - as long as faz was getting his cut he didn't care how bad their service was.
The 2 year old bloke and goldbets were just the last straw really - can't really blame them - they were just jumping on the bandwagon.

Still, we've got all the good guys here now, so out of that we've cut the chaff and the cream has risen to the top - out of adversity something good has happened

Personally speaking I would rather sleep at night with a clear conscience and not have to deal with a load of no-hopers - AR has joined goldy's forum (yes, he's got one !!), and apparently the cast list is something to behold !
