Dicko's Scraper

Re: Custom Software Requests Thread ???

Hi Mate,

I am thinking that maybe we should create a new thread for the info you are posting up with your new scraper rather then fill this thread up, what do you think?

What the scraper is doing is fetching data from the RP and recording the Topspeed figures and the RPR figure. Then it calculates the difference in weight each horse is behind the top weight and then inverts that. The next step is to allocate points from the betting tissue for each runner working from the outsider to the fav. The outsider always gets 1 point and the next will get however many price points difference added to that 1 point.
After a bit of adding and division you arrive at a tissue price that marries up the class in the race against recent form and gives a more realistic picture of a horses chance. Well that's the theory anyway. It's over to the members now to see if it can be fine tuned or used in any niche ways. Whilst testing I looked for horses which showed improved speed figures and were shorter on my tissue than the s.p. forecast in the RP. If its up there on RPR so much the better!

How have you been getting on, still sticking with the same original ideas or have you moved on?

Pyracantha finished 3rd @14/1. RPR/Topspeed and the tissue indicator all pointed to a decent performance. Of course there's other factors to be taken into consideration but the basic form factors are laid out in an easy to understand way. The scraper does the work we just sort the probables.

interesting race today. 2 really out of line in the tissue and a standout win and place bet.

Well the scraper did its job and highlighted those that were bigger priced than should have been. Unfortunately I sided with the wrong horse. Indian violet had the joint best RPR and with the weight difference of 10 pounds from the top weight gave this one a good chance of running above the s.p. expectations. The scraper anticipated odds of 15.55 and it returned 16/1. :handgestures-thumbup:

Hi Mate,
I have a hard day today and my brain is frazzled. What was the standout win and place bet?

Hi Kev
Lady Prodee or Indian Violet had real tissue prices way below there s.p.forecasted odds.
I highlight the ones in yellow as positives and the ones in red as negatives. Lady Prodee was top on both Topspeed and R.P.R. It was forecast as 17.0 but the scraper had it as a 8.55 chance. Indian Violet was also top rated R.P.R. But had a 5 point inferior Topspeed rating. Forecast as a 26.0 chance when the scraper indicated its odds to be 15.55.
As I said earlier I had 2 to choose from and bullishly chose the shorter of the 2 which I highlight by the cell indicator( blue box). Also note the 2 horses in row 21 which say "odds too low". Originally I asked Damon to put a 3/1 min odds restriction in place but since I have started proofing races, all but one have actually won!

another tight race with only 2 runners showing as the wrong odds but are both big prices. Arabian Flight has caught my eye. Just 2 points off top RPR and top on Topspeed and showing a progressive increase in speed ratings. The tissue isnt too far out and with the 6 pounds its getting from the topweight make this an each way selection.

Hi Tony
Sorry for late reply as I've just finished my shift at Tesco. Had a dabble on both races. One winner and the other 5th.
It's frustrating that work gets in the way as I would like to do more races and follow them up nearer to the off to see how they compare odds wise etc :handgestures-thumbup:

Added Marins scraper for this race to see if it adds anything to help with the selections.
Any comments?

Looks like Saturdays won't happen as long as Mr Tesco keeps me on these early starts as I cannot get the scraper up and running before 9.00 a.m.
My apologies.

This looks an interesting race and I think the odds movement will be a good indicator.
