Another two winners. I only managed to back the first after some extraordinary circumstances...
I already stated a couple of days ago that I was in London on Saturday, prior to the terrorists attacking. Today I decided to go back, in order to observe the minute's silence whilst in the capital. I spent a few hours in the city before deciding to head home around 3pm. I jumped on the train for what is normally a 35 minute journey back home and after about 20 mins it stopped and we sat still for a while. After a few more minutes an announcement was made that there was something on the track and that we would not be moving until it was cleared. A further announcement was then made to say that it was a trampoline that had blown onto overhead wires (!) Shortly after we began moving again and it wasn't long until I arrived at my station. Upon alighting I noticed a dozen or so police officers, some armed, getting on to the next carriage. I walked to the end of the platform and up the stairs, at which point three other policemen confronted me!
The following is not verbatim, but pretty close to it:
"We've had reports of someone matching your description making a phone call which has disturbed a passenger," one of them said.
Obviously, my reply was along the lines of WTF!
"We're detaining you."
OMG, you're fucking kidding me! I start shaking, they tell me to calm down a bit and I offer to show them my phone so that they can see the call history, so that they'll realise that I haven't made a phone call all day but as I go to reach into my pocket, they sternly tell me not to!
"Do you have any ID?" I don't, but offer up my bank card and give them my name and number, at which point they probably get word through on their radio that I'm not the extremist that they're looking for...phew! The copper apologised and explained that they have to take everything seriously at the moment (no shit, Sherlock). We shook hands and I left a free man, albeit with a slightly higher blood pressure reading!
Today's qualifiers will be coming up shortly.
